NITDA Wants Inclusion of ICT on Schools’ Curricula
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Abuja, has urged authorities of post-primary schools across the country to include ICT on schools’ curricula.
The Director General of NITDA, Prof. Cleopas Angaye, stated in Lagos that effective ICT training and development would enable the country to achieve its Vision 20:2020.
He noted that information technology had assisted developing countries in human capital development particularly in the areas of teaching aids and research.
“School administrators should include ICT on their curricula to catch pupils young on the global trend of technology,’’ he said.
Angaye said Nigeria had not fully exploited ICT potentialities in its bid to make the country one of the twenty most developed countries by 2020.
The NITDA boss advocated adequate investment on ICT to catch up with the new skills in the global technology.
“The existing infrastructure and socio-economic, cultural as well as the political situation in the country have also hindered the development of ICT,’’ he said.
Angaye called on the Federal Government to create an ICT agency in line with global practice and also partner with federal and state ministries of education on the project.
“This will ensure that ICT is taken to the grass roots,’’ he added.
