Motorists Commend Amaechi Over Agip Flyover Test-Run
Motorists plying Mile 3 Rumuokoro route in Port Harcourt will now heave a sigh of relief as the Agip flyover is open for test-run to road users.
The flyover which was opened for use barely one week ago is yet to be completed as only one lane was ready and opened basically for test-run.
The Tide, however, observed that the attempt had tremendously aided the free flow of road traffic around the Agip-Abacha road junction as the going and on-coming vehicles share the only available ready lane.
Speaking to The Tide, a commercial bus driver, John Edet, said that when the flyover was opened for motorists to use last week Tuesday, drivers were skeptical and afraid to use the flyover as work is still going on, on the bridge, saying that it took some drivers courage to drive across the flyover.
He however, commended the government of Rivers State for meaning well for the masses in the area of decongesting the roads in Port Harcourt, especially the Agip junction, as it were, and now with the Agip flyover the story is changing gradually.
Another motorist, Chief Festus Iwucha who expressed his joy over the flow of traffic on that route said that at last, the long awaited flyover which was characterised with sluggishness, stoppage of work and delay tactics by the contractors will soon be a thing of the past.
He expressed optimism that the flyover and the ground side roads would be officially completed before the yuletide season.
Meanwhile, hawkers who make their daily bread as a result of traffic hold ups at the Agip flyover site, have decried, the opening of the flyover as traffic flow has disorganised their business.
One of the hawkers, Ikechi Ogwu, who spoke to The Tide, said since the opening of the flyover, business has totally dwindled and crippled since road traffic congestion has disappeared.
