Borno Revamps El-Kanemi FC
The Borno government has promised to revive the El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri.
The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zanna Mustapha, said this after inspecting the club’s camp in Maiduguri.
El-Kanemi, the 1990 FA Challenge Club champions has not been promoted into the elite Premier League since it was relegated eight years ago.
Mustapha said that the club had been left to degenerate over the years by the former administrations in the state.
Mustapha expressed dismay at the dilapidated conditions in the camp and directed the team manager, Zanna Ibrahim to submit proposals on rehabilitation of the facility for immediate action.
Speaking earlier, Ibrahim had appealed for the renovation of the camp.
The Deputy Governor also visited the club’s Sports Centre in Maiduguri, where he promised assistance on the renovation of its main bowl and other facilities.
Mustapha pointed out that the state government placed premium on sports development because of its importance in the well being of the youth.
