12 Varsity Students Renounce Cult Membership
Twelve students of the Kogi State University, Anyigba, have renounced their membership of three secret cults operating on the campus.
Our correspondent reports that the students made the public renunciation in the auditorium of the institution recently while the school management granted them pardon.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hassan Isah, conveyed the management’s decision to pardon the students, saying that they were made to sign an oath of good behaviour.
The vice-chancellor congratulated them for choosing the right path and urged them to remain committed to their academic pursuits. the Dean, Students’ Affairs of the university, Dr Awam Menagbe, described cult groups as militant, ruthless and heartless, noting that cultism was a common feature in most Nigerian university campuses.
He called for synergy between university communities and security agencies in scooping cultists out. “All hands must be on deck to stamp out the evil.”
The State Security Service, in collaboration with the institution’s security outfit, acted on a tip-off to pick up the cult members who were paraded before the university’s management, staff and fellow students.
Weapons including guns, live ammunition, axes and cutlasses, as well as charms and red garments patched with white feathers were recovered from them.
While some of the former cultists confessed that they were initiated in their secondary school days, others said they joined the secret cults in the university.
