Market Chairman Faces Prosecution Over Property Seizure
The chairman, Administrative Committee of the Mile One Market Traders Association (MOMTA), Chief Y.O.C. Georgewill is now facing another court prosecution for allegedly confisticating goods belonging to one of the executive member of the union for non payment of dues.
The Tide has reliably gathered that goods belonging to the said exco member (name withheld) was ceased and took to an undisclosed place by the order of chief Georgewill, who alleged that he had not paid his dues.
Findings revealed that the aggrieved exco member teamed up with his supporters to take legal action on the matter which they termed as to be a criminal offence for which the MOMTA chairman was arrested and detained for some days along side the alleged accomplice.
Speaking to The Tide on the matter, the Vice Chairman of the association, chief Stainless Emenike said that the matter was taken to court on the account of stealing, due to the manner in which the properties were ceased, without the consent of the owner.
Chief Emenike posited that the already existing disagreement in the current exco is affecting the union’s activities, adding that Chief Georgewill was adviced earlier not to cease property belonging to an exco member, since he is entitled to some privileges, apart from the disagreement in the union.
He said that the matter is now before the Port Harcourt Magistrate Court three, presided over by magistrate Agbasam esquire..
On his part, the former caretaker chairman of the association, Mr. Daniel Iheme said he is aware of the matter against Chief Georgewill for allegedly stealing properties of member who is not in his group.
However, when The Tide called on Chief Georgewill, he said that the whole matter boils down to activities of few individual that wants to be sturborn, and that he does not want to say much on that.
It would be recalled that about three court matters involving the chairman is still pending in court with a year and half in office.
