Councillor Decries Falling Standard Of Education
The councillor, representing Ward 8 in Omuma Legislative Council, Hon. Francis Okpoko, has decried the continuing falling standard of education in the country.
He also challenged teachers and administrative officers in the ministry of education and its agencies to rise to the task in view of the huge investment government is putting into the sector.
Hon. Okpoko, who is a member of education committee in the council, admonished teachers over poor standard of education especially in rural areas where students and pupils cannot effectively read or write to demonstrate what they have been taught.
He regretted that teachers and education administrators have failed to monitor the activities and functions of schools and charged them to take their work serious.
The lawmaker, who is also chairman, public complaint and petition committee, advised people to petition any teacher or school manager that falls short of expectations for appropriate disciplinary measures and enjoined students, pupils and teachers to reciprocate the good gesture of Governor Chibuike Amaechi on education by redouble their efforts.
The lawmaker commended the chairman of Omuma Local Government Area, Hon. John Anucha, for his focus and uprightness in sponsoring workshops for councillors on capacity building development and tasked councilors to show commitment in making acceptable bye-laws for the transformation and consolidation.
