Bayelsa Tennis Team Optimistic Of Medals
The coach of Bayelsa Tennis team in the on-going National Sports Festival (NSF) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Barbra Omie has assured that her team would go home with some medals at the end of the games.
Speaking with sports writers at Port Harcourt Club Tennis section on Tuesday, Omie said she had done her own part as a coach and expessed hope that the players would show more commitment to ensure victory at the end of the games to make Bayelsa proud.
According to her, the Bayelsa Government had taken up the challenge through the Director of Sports, Jackson Bidei, adding that the management of the Bayelsa State Sports Council and the Ministry of Sports had done well for ensuring the participantion of “Team Bayelsa” in the festival and also come home with medals by motivating the contingents.
The coach said a total of nine tennis players are representing the state, which comprises of five males and 4 females, and expressed optimism that her team would make the state proud, “although its going to be a tough game with teams from Lagos, Delta and Rivers,” she said. It is going to be a fight of the elephants and the grasses are going to suffer”, she fumed, and lauded the Rivers State government and management of Port Harcourt Club for keeping the tennis courts up to date by given them a perfect look. Barbra Omie, a former National Cycling champion and coach also commended all arrangements made towards a successful tennis tournament as officials were in Port Harcourt earlier for a refresher course in preparation for the festival.
