Toby Tasks Rotarians On Service To Humanity
The District Governor of Rotary Club, District 9140, Sir G.T.G Toby, has urged members of the Club in the zone to rededicate themselves to the ideal of service to humanity.
Sir, Toby who said this at the one-year anniversary of the Rotary club of Port Harcourt, GRA also lamented the diminishing fortunes of most clubs in the District.
Toby who was former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, said that time had come for members to brace up for the challenges of providing humanitarian services to the downtrodden in the society.
According to him, the world which is presently being ravaged by natural disasters and poverty looked up to Rotary for its succour.
He also thanked the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, GRA for emerging as one of the best clubs in the District, noting that its humanitarian activities within the last one year had already distinguished the club.
In her lecture entitled “Growth and Leadership: a Perspective on Individuals and Organisation”, Rotarian Virginia Major, stressed the need for individuals and organisations to always take step to improve their condition in life.
Rotarian Major said that maintaining a stagnant life devoid of change and improvement was the worst thing that would happen to an individual.
“Growth is optional. You can choose to grow or fight it. However people who are unwilling to grow will never grow to their full potential”, she said.
The club’s president, Prof Winston Belgam, in his speech said that the club would remain committed and focused in its service to the society.
Highlights of the occasion was the induction of new members among who, is the commissioner for Information and Communications Mrs. Ibim Semenitari who was represented by Mrs. Gina Daka Osika.
