Commission Scores Former LG Chairmen High
The Rivers State Local Government Service Commission has rated the performances of the outgone local government administration in the State high.
The Secretary of the commission Barrister Ransome West who stated this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in his office in Port Harcourt said that the outgone council Administration in the23 local government councils performed very well especially in the areas of infrastructural development and staff welfare.
“We have done a bit of objective assessment performance of the councils and we have discovered that more than ever before, local government councils have been able to put infrastructure in place in their various local government areas”, he said.
According to him, most local government councils have built new model secretariat complexes which have given them a new look while some of the councils have embarked on road projects, staff quarters while staff welfare was given prompt attention.
Barrister West, however attributed the development to the leverages given to the councils by the state Governor Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who took over the payment of teachers salaries from the local government councils.
The secretary also stressed the need for the incoming administrations in the councils to put in place programmes that would further improve on the achievements of their predecessors.
This, he said they could do by embarking on programmes that would impact on the living standard of people while calling for the improvement of legislations at the local government levels.
