Rivers NCSU Honours Retirees
The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Rivers State chapter, has honoured members of the union who retired from service with a charge for them to be good ambassadors of the union.
The state chairman of the union, Comrade Opuoyibo Lilly-West who gave the charge during an award ceremony and New Year party organised for the retirees and members of the union in Port Harcourt last Friday said, honouring the retirees would put them in the right frame of mind to face the challenges of life.
He acknowledged the enormous contributions of the retirees in repositioning the union and development of the state, urging them to always show that though retired, they were not tired.
Further giving an insight into what informed the celebration of the retirees, Comrade Lilly-West said honouring them was a way of appreciating their meritorious and dedicated services, to the union and the state.
The labour leader noted that the union was quite aware of the socio-economic challenges facing the retirees, adding that the award ceremony was used as an avenue for cushioning the effects of such challenges.
Also speaking, the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Chief Chris Oruge who was the chairman of the occasion told members of the union to eschew bitterness and rancour, regretting the protracted crisis that had rocked the union in recent times.
Chief Oruge who was represented, by the state NLC Secretary, Comrade Williams Addah also enjoined members to always toe the path of peace, truth and justice in order to protect the union from the grips of godfatherism and undue meddlesomeness of those he said had allegedly turned the union to their personal estate.
Meanwhile, the women committee of the union has been dissolved. Comrade Lilly-West who announced the dissolution said a new women committee would be constituted soon. The union also used the forum to formally recall its suspended members.
