Ogbakor Ikwerre Vows To Restore Peace At Rumuekpe
The Ogbakor Ikwerre cultural organisation worldwide said no effort would be spared in the efforts at restoring lasting peace in Rumuekpe community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The President General of the organisation, Chief Sampson Agbaru who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt also said that the organization would not bow to the antics of a few elements in the efforts at bringing back peace in the crisis-ridden community.
According to him, steps have been taken by the organisation to restore peace to the area adding that the moves are yielding positive results as the people of Rumuekpe are gradually returning home.
One of the steps taken, according to him, include the formation of vigilantee groups recognised by people that are keeping the peace in the area.
Chief Agbaru, a one-time secretary to the Rivers State Government, explained that members of the vigilantee who were drawn from every sections of the community were thoroughly screened by the police, noting that they have the mandate to safeguard the community against any form of threat to peace.
The Ogbakor Ikwerre Chief, however, urged those who want the community to be crisis-ridden to have a rethink of their action.
He reminded all that the vigilantee was not there to harm anyone but to guide against the resurgence of violence at Rumuekpe.
Meanwhile, the Pan Ikwerre socio-cultural organization has commended the people of Rumuekpe for turning out en mass to participate in the ongoing voters registration exercise.
