RSG Bans Dumping Of Refuse In Front Of Public Buildings
The Rivers State Government has banned the dumping of refuse in fronts of schools and other public buildings in the state.
Commissioner for Environment, Barrister Kingley Chinda stated this, weekend, in Port Harcourt, at the end of last month’s environmental sanitation exercise.
Barrister Chinda, who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Mr. R.N. Godwins, also directed refuse contractors to ensure the evacuation of refuse within six hours after every sanitation exercise.
He also said the Rivgreen Vegetal Rehabilitation Initiative at Amassoma Street and Amadi Flat, were Part of programmes of the ministry to make Port Harcourt green.
According to him, the initiative will not only serve as recreational centres to members of the public, but will make Port Harcourt to regain its original status as the garden city of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the ministry of Environment has demolished a building located at captain Amangala Street, Port Harcourt use by criminals to carry out their activities.
The permanent secretary told newsmen that the exercise was in response to public outcry.
“Our coming here was on response to public outcry. The neighbourhood has been held hostage by criminals who commits numerous crimes in this place,” he said.
He thanked the neighbourhood for their co-operation, stressing that “gone are the days when government would fold its hands and allow criminals make Port Harcourt Unsafe for the people.”
