RSG Assures On Quality Roads, Bridges
The Rivers State Government has reiterated its resolve to ensure the construction of roads and bridges in the state that would stand the test of time and meet international standards.
The Commissioner for Works Hon. Dakuku Peterside, who stated this at the closing ceremony of the project management training of engineers in his Ministry in Port Harcourt, assured that the ministry would create an enabling environment for participants to display the skills acquired at the workshop.
The Commissioner, who described the first phase of this programme as part of the rebranding process for engineers in the Ministry, congratulated them for being part of the first phase of trainees, urging them to use all the materials given to them optimally.
The Commissioner was represented at the ceremony by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Sir Promise Njiowhor.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of certificates to the participants by the Director of Administration in the Ministry, Mr. Donatus Nweneka.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner has restated government’s commitment to ensure that contractors delivered quality projects in the state.
He said this during the inspection of the over 2 kms Abuloma-Woji road dualisation project in Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner, who disclosed that the project, when completed, would connect Abuloma, Woji and Akpajo at the East West road, hinted that the road would consist of a bridge of about 187km that will be refered to as the Trans Woji bridge with Sand-filling to a depth of about 9 metrers.
Hon. Peterside, who appreciated the challenges associated with the terrain, expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work saying that at the present pace it would be difficult for the contractor to deliver the project at the agreed time frame of 24 months.
