Rivers Energy Firm To Be 100% Indigenous – MD
The Managing Director of Treasure Energy Resources, a Rivers State -Owned Oil Company, Dr. Eddie Nwikina says, the employment policy of the company would be 100 per cent indigenous.
The managing director disclosed this during an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt recently.
According to the MD, the policy of localising the employment system of the company is to bridge the gap of lack of active participation of Rivers people in the oil and gas industry.
Although he said Rivers State is the hub of the oil and gas industries in Nigeria, her people were denied functional participation through employment opportunities in the industry.
He lamented a system where oil companies operating in Rivers State deny the state indigenes employment opportunities especially at the higher cadre, noting that such policy was antithetical to the development of the state.
The Managing Director explained that the vision of the Rivers State Government in floating a state owned oil company was to exploit the enormous oil and gas reserve of the state through direct and active participation in petroleum exploration and production activities in order to fully utilise the opportunities in terms of energy resources.
According to him, the Rivers Energy firm was registered in May 2009 as a Private Public Company, wholly owned by the Rivers State Government to create avenue of generating income to support ongoing development project in Rivers State.
On the enormous developmental challenges in the state, the MD said proceeds from the indigenous oil firm will complement federal fiscal allocation to fast track human capital and infrastructural development in the state. He said the company also has the mandate to develop the needed skills in the oil sector through training of youths.
But Nwikina said the company will also venture into optimal exploitation of the gas resources in the state for the promotion of industrial growth.
He commended the vision of Governor Chibuike Amaechi in floating the project and called for maximum support of Rivers people to actualise the goals of the project.
