Gunmen Kill Two In PH
Unidentified gunmen, Monday night shot dead a youngman named Cyril and a lady believed to be his girl friend, Miss Vera Akpan in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to an eye witness, the victims met their death while drinking in front of a beer parlour at number 24 Ovim Lane off Azikwe Street, Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt
The Tide gathered that two gunmen came in a Toyota Camry car, shot at the victims severally and zoomed off to an unknown destination at about 10.30 pm
The Tide reporter, who visited the scene of the crime discovered that the door of the drinking parlour was under lock and key but was dotted with bullet holes while blood was flowing at the premise.
As at the time The Tide reporter arrived No 72A Ojoto Lane in Mile 3 Diobu, home of the mother of late Cyril at about 2.45pm, his corpse was still lying in state.
At the residence of the said girl friend of Mr Cyril, Miss Vera Akpan at No15 Christ Apostle Street Mile 3, Diobu Port Harcourt, it was confirmed that her corpse has been conveyed to her home town in Akwa Ibom State for burial.
The cause of the killing was not yet known, but speculations from the neighbourhood have it that it may be in connection with cult activities.
The mother of late Cyril who could not mention her name told our correspondent that she was not aware of what happened, because I was almost asleep when somebody came and knocked at my door and told me that my son had been shot, but all the same let God’s will be done”, she concluded.
Efforts to reach the police Public Relations Officer, Dr Rita Inoma-Abbey for comments proved abortive as she was said to be in a meeting.
