17th NSF: Zamfara To Participate In 17 Events
The Zamfara contingent to the 2010 National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled for Port Harcourt will compete in 17 events Alhaji Abubakar Maradum, the Special Adviser, Sports Development, has said.
Maradum, the Special Adviser to Governor Aliyu Shinkafi, told newsmen in Gusau early in the week that the state had already started preparing for the November festival.
“We have already signified intention to participate in 17 different sports during the festival and have gone far with preparations to justify our being in Port Harcourt in November,’’ he said.
The state’s contingent to the last sports festival, Kaduna 2009, performed poorly and finished with only three bronze medals after participating in not less than 15 sporting events.
The special adviser said the state was determined to make an impressive outing at this year’s festival.
The sports administrator said that the state would concentrate on grooming local talents instead of recruiting from other states.
According to him, early preparation will enable the state to present the best athletes that are available in the state for the festival.
He said that the athletes, selected mainly from the inter schools’ sports competition, would have their skills honed through intensive training.
