The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi ahs promised to take up alleged cases of denials, oppression and intimidation of the Fouchee community by other communities in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Gov. Amaechi who was responding to demands of the community at the Town Hall meeting in Degema said that he had learnt of the Fouchee community challenge before, but the town hall meeting would not be the best place to address the matter.

He advised the community to be rest assured that the state government would go into the matter and ensure that no community in the state was denied its due peace and support in the scheme of things.

Earlier, a spokesman for the community, Dagogo Clinton, a Chief Elect told the congregation how the Fouchee community had been denied everything for forty years, adding that no government project has gone to Fouchee within the period.

According to him, because their powerful neighbour seized their political ward, they also had not voted nor been voted for since the attainment of democracy. Consequently, they have not had any political appointment at any level.

The community was however grateful to the current leadership in Kalabari Kingdom for giving Fouchee its due place in the commity of Kalabari communities. They praised God for allowing the experiences that had made them stronger and more united.

They also noted that within the period their neighbours used their political might to oppress them, God used the oil industry and foreign development partners to provide for them electricity, water, vehicles, employment among others.
