Amnesty: DESOPADEC Commends Jonathan Over Sustenance
President Goodluck Jonathan has been commended for sustaining the Amnesty Programme initiated by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Mr Austine Ogbolu, a Commissioner in the Delta State Oil Producing Development Commission (DESOPADEC), made the commendation on Monday in Benin, in an interview with newsmen.
He said with the implementation of the post amnesty programmes, problems prevalent in the area were now gradually being overcome.
The commissioner solicited support for Jonathan to enable Nigerians to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He, however, said democracy could not be sustained without peace and commended Niger Delta youths for embracing the Federal Government’s peace initiative.
Ogbolu said the dividends of democracy should be seen beyond the provision of amenities.
“We should all commit ourselves to true democracy when the people are allowed to choose who should represent them at all levels of governance,” he said.
The commissioner advocated that the one-man-one- vote campaign should be encouraged in future elections.
