RSG Warns Developers Over GRA Phase 8
The Rivers State Government will not pay compensation to any person or persons who default its “Stop work” order on GRA Phase 8 situated along G.U. Ake/Eliozu Bye-pass in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Hon. Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi, made the pronouncement during an unscheduled inspection tour to the layout.
The Commissioner noted with dismay that despite series of earlier announcements made through the mass media and bill boards informing the general public, developers and purchasers of properties in the layout, some persons have continued to violate the warnings.
Ezekiel-Amadi frowned at such development and stressed that when the on-going rectification exercise is concluded, any affected building will be destroyed. He therefore warned developers at the layout to stop further development in their own interest.
During the inspection visit, Commissioner Ezekiel-Amadi observed that recently, installed PHCN high tension lines encroached on several previously allotted plots, and therefore called on PHCN authorities to immediately contact the survey department of the ministry to address the identified risks posed by their installations.
The commissioner also warned those breaking through the government fences to desist forthwith or face arrest and prosecution and gave the field officers two months to complete the rectification exercise. He further explained that his visit was to enable him see first hand the planning and design errors involved in the layout.
Responding on behalf of the field officers, the Survey-General, Mr. Gaius Assor promised that his team will work tirelessly to beat the deadline.
