RSG Slashes Rulers’ Exco Tenure …Announces One-Year Term
If the statement by the Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is anything to go by, all future chairmen of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers would now serve one year per term instead of the present two years.
Rt. Hon. Amaechi who dropped the hint yesterday at the 78th quarterly general meeting of the council in Port Harcourt, however said that the tenure could be renewed from one to two.
The Governor also thanked the royal fathers for their support, stressing that the state government needs their wisdom to succeed.
He also promised to consult them in the award of school and electricity projects in the various communities.
In his address, the chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Eze Ogba of Ogbaland, His Eminence, Chukumela Nnam Obi II, stressed the need for all vacant traditional stools recognized by government to be filled, while certificates be issued to the recognized traditional rulers.
DrNnam Obi also called for the provision of new cars for all recognized traditional rulers.
He said that the council has provided a mace and a royal insignia for the traditional institution in the state, while a flag and staff for all government recognized traditional rulers have been produced.
The chairman also said that a bill for the classification of traditional rulers and chiefs, recognition of stools and certain other matters connected with chieftaincy laws of the state is being forwarded to government for consideration.
He said that approval has been obtained for the expansion of the council’s secretariat.
