A tennis player in Rivers State, Atorodibo Dagogo, has applauded the speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry for his effort towards bringing the the sport back to life.

Dagogo, who made this known in a chat with Tidesports said the good works of the speaker needed commendation, saying that what the speaker is doing for tennis can only be appreciated in the years ahead. He called on other people in the state to emulate the gesture.

On on-going catch-them-young children tennis programme, he said that it was propelled by his love for tennis and the desire to teach the younger ones who learn faster than adults.

He noted that the problem of sports in the country is based on the neglect of school and grassroots sports.

“In Nigeria sports is dying because of the neglect of “catch-them-young”, he said, adding that the training of the young ones garantees the future of sports in any country.

He also expressed optimism that the 2010 National Sports festival in Rivers State will provide an opportunity for the court to be refurbished.

“The tennis court at the sports council is the best, the only thing we need is serious refurbishment”, he said.
