Suspected Cultists Attack Councillor
The deputy leader of the legislative arm of Tai Local Government Council, Hon Lucky Obizie was severely tortured by irate youths suspected to be repentant cultists from Sime Community. Hon Obizie who is the councilor representing Sime-Barayira Ward 8 in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State was attacked and given the beating of his life at the weekend in Sime. The aggrieved cultists alleged that they decided to descend on Lucky Obizie because of non-payment of an agreed sum of hundred thousand naira as settlement for services rendered to him by the youths during the last election that brought him to office. According to an eye witness report, the Tai Council Deputy leader, Hon Lucky Obizie was on his way home from a burial in Sime Town, when the irate youths ambushed and launched a surprise attack on him, and assaulted him. Reports have it that the former cultists numbering about six were displaying something like identity badges on their chests allegedly issued to them by the Rivers State Social Rehabilitation Centre. Some security operatives who were close to the scene were said to have promptly intervened and rescued the deputy leader from his attackers. The former cultists who were said to be shouting in high tone were also said to have demanded the return of some arms which they allegedly gave to Hon Lucky Obizie during the previous election in the local government area.
