Adefemi Joins Boulogne In France
Nigeria defender, Olubayo Adefemi has teamed up with Ligue 1 outfit US Boulogne after a rather traumatic time in Europe over the past six months.
“This is a very good move for ‘Bayo [Adefemi] as he is guaranteed regular playing time. It is his chance to finally establish himself in Europe,” said a source close to the player.
Last season, Boulogne finished third in the French second division to book their place to the top league.
Adefemi has already played in Israel and Romania. It needed the intervention of FIFA to release him from his contract with Rapid Bucharest after the club’s failure to pay him regularly.
However, a move to Austria never got off the ground, as his clearance papers arrived too late for him to beat registration deadline. Rheindorf Altach, the club he was to sign for, would later be relegated from the top tier.
A handful of solid outings with Nigeria this month are believed to have convinced Boulogne to sign him as they feature in the French top-flight for the very first time in their history.
It is believed that 23-year-old Adefemi also interested Saint-Etienne, as well as Belgian champions Standard Liege.
