Bayelsa Unveils Committee On Ecosystem
The Bayelsa State Government has inaugurated a five-man committee to draft a blue-print for the Bayelsa ‘Decade of Ecosystem Restoration’.
The Tide gathered that the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr lselema Gbaranbiri, inaugurated the committee in his office, in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Gbaranbiri charged the committee members to bring to bear their wealth of experience and professionalism in carrying out the task, adding that they were carefully selected as the State was looking up to them.
He noted that their mandate was to draft a ten-year programme outcome document on Ecosystem Restoration from 2021-2030 for the State to align with the United Nations’ decade plans on Ecosystem Restoration as was earlier directed by the State Governor , Sen. Douye Diri.
The environment commissioner charged the committee to complete the task of formulating the required document on or before September 15th, this year.
In his remarks, the chairman of the committee and Regional Director, African Trade Centre, Niger Delta Region, Mr Hephzibah Soubo; thanked the environment commissioner for finding them worthy for the assignment and promised to follow the United Nations’ guidelines as well as consult relevant agencies to deliver on the job.
