Rivers United Struggles For Point At Home
Rivers United dropped points at home for the second time this season after they were held to 1-1 draw by Wikki Tourists at the Adokiye Amiesimaka’s Stadium on Monday.
The Pride of Rivers’ bid to return to winning ways at home after last home draw against Abia Warriors was dealt a blow when Wikki Tourists took the lead inside the opening four minutes.
Stephen Gopey, who left Rivers United during the mid-season transfer window for Wikki Tourists scored the goal when he headed a corner past goalkeeper Okiemute Odah.
Rivers United wasted a glorious chance to equalise 16 minutes later. Morice Chukwu floated in a free-kick that was met by Sunday Adetunji, but the goalkeeper spilled the ball to Esor whoset up Martins Usule, whose header rattled the upright.
Martins Usule came close again 10 minutes later and this time, his low shot hit the side netting.
In the second half, Sunday Adetunji wasted two chances in quick succession when he fired straight at the goalkeeper from the edge of the box and also failed to tap in a low cross from Paul Acquah.
Wikki Tourists’ resistance was finally broken in the added time, no thanks to a superb finish from Malachi Ohawume inside the box.
Rivers United has now drawn their last three matches ( Abia Warriors, Kwara United and Wikki Tourists), with their last victory coming on May 16th against Rangers International in Enugu.
