FERMA Begins Rehabilitation Of 96km Bauchi Highway
The Bauchi office of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), yesterday said it had awarded additional contract for general rehabilitation of a 96-kilometre highway in the state.
The road Maintenance Engineer in charge of Bauchi State, Mr Nanpang Joroh, who disclosed this in an interview with The Tide source said the maintenance was from Kari-Yana, up to the state’s boundary with Jigawa.
Joroh said the contract was awarded to Hadar Technologies, an Abuja-based contracting firm, adding that the company was expected to complete the project within six months.
He said the contractual specifications of the project included, pavement strengthening, asphalt overlay of damaged portions of the road, and repair of failed sections, especially the road shoulders.
According to him, the ongoing repairs of the 97 kilometres Bauchi to Ningi highway, which involved asphalt overlay of the damaged portions, construction of damaged culverts and lined drains, has reached 70 per cent completion.
“The road is now potholes free, and motorists will now enjoy free passage without experiencing hardships like in the past; we are always committed to taking proactive measures on our roads,’’ he said.
The engineer explained that the ongoing rehabilitation of the 47 kilometres Bauchi-Tafawa Balewa to Plateau State boundary, had also reached 50 per cent completion level, adding that FERMA would continue to ensure safety of road users.
Joroh commended the contractors handing the projects for executing the contracts in accordance with the stipulated guidelines and contractual specifications.
“All the contracts were awarded in December 2020 and are expected to be completed by May 2021,” Joroh said.
FERMA in the state, recently awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of 274 kilometres highways in Bauchi to enhance safety of road users.

Haniel Jack Foundation Awards Five Rivers Indigenes Scholarship
The Ibanibo Haniel Jack Foundation has awarded scholarships to five Rivers State indigenes in different tertiary institutions.
The scholarship programme was announced on Easter Sunday by Rev. Dr. Samuel Wachukwu, who is also the presiding pastor of Redeemer Baptist Church, at No. 44/46 Lumumba Street, Mile Two Diobu, in Port Harcourt.
Speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Barrister Karibi George, advised the recipients to justify the scholarship by ensuring that they put in their best and finish at the expected time.
George reminded them that opportunity comes but once and they should take advantage of the opportunity that comes their way judiciously.
“Those of you who are beneficiaries of this scholarship should also remember to help others and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“I advise you to justify the opportunity given to you and make the man who gave you the scholarship, yourself, and your family proud,” Barrister George said.

He explained that the scholarship spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various high institutions in Nigeria. He thanks Sir Jack for the gesture.
The scholarship is to promote education in our society, most especially for Rivers indigenes, and equally assist those who cannot immediately afford tuition fees.

Chief Prezi Diffa, while presenting the awards, commended Sir Ibanibo Haniel Jack, who has deemed it necessary to give back to society.
Chief Diffa equally advised the beneficiaries to take their academics seriously and count themselves lucky.
“The man who has given you this scholarship wants to better your lives, so please put in every effort to ensure you finish the school with flying colors,” Chief Diffa said.
