Rivers LG Boss Sacks Council Secretary
Ahead of the Local Government elections in Rivers State, the intrigues and power tussle by political gladiators in Ikwerre Local Government Area took a new dimension, yesterday, as the council Chairman, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, relieved the Council Secretary, Hon Obinna Ekem, of his appointment.
A terse statement issued by the Media Aide to Nwanosike, Chris Omodu, and made available to The Tide, yesterday, directed the embattled Secretary to hand over all council property in his possession to the chief of staff to the chairman.
The statement read, “The Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Engr. Samuel Nwanosike has relieved the Secretary of the Council, Hon. Obinna Ekem (of) his appointment with immediate effect, he should hand over all council properties in his possession to the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman.”
“The chairman thanked him for the services rendered to the council, and wished him well in his future life endeavours.”
Sources in Ikwerre Local Government Area, said that Ekem’s sack might not be unconnected with preparations for the upcoming council poll across the state, which has polarised the powers that be in the area.
Nwanosike wants to run again but there are those opposed to his ambition so sacking Ekem, according to sources, was a stroke to knock the steam off those opposed to his bid.
As push gradually comes to shove, it was learnt that the chairman would deploy more aces from his sleeves to whittle down the rising opposition against him.
“More heads will definitely roll in the run up of the election because those against him are also not resting”, a source said.
It would be recalled that Governor Nyesom Wike had given the council chairman a clean bill of health when he came to the local government area to inaugurate some projects, recently.
The governor’s comments according to the council chairman’s allies, was a tacit approval for him to continue with his festering ambition.
How far the gladiators go to actualise their dreams and ambitions remain to be seen.
