Delta Assembly Passes 17 Bills In 2020
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, says that the Seventh Assembly of the state passed 17 bills in 2020.
Oborevwori said this at the resumption of plenary by the Assembly yesterday in Asaba.
He said that 16 of the bills were assented to by the executive.
The speaker commended the members for their commitment despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
“So far, at the end of Year 2020, the Seventh Assembly succeeded in passing 17 bills and 16 of them were assented to by the state governor, Sen. IfeanyiOkowa.
“I wish to commend the members for their exemplary commitment, patriotism and conduct in the face of various daunting challenges in the year 2020, especially, with the outbreak of the ravaging COVID-19.
“I give thanks to God almighty for keeping us alive and, especially, for His divine healing from COVID-19 attack.
“We are told it is not over yet. A second wave is currently with us now and we have a duty to diligently observe the safety protocols and guidelines as prescribed by the Federal and the State Governments,” he said.
The Speaker also advised the members to be conscious of their responsibilities as lawmakers and ensure they live up to it.
“Although we have a critical and congested legislative timetable ahead, we must be thorough in our work and ensure we perform our legislative duties for the common good of all,” Oborevwori said.
He commended the lawmakers for the stability in the House and pleaded for continuous teamwork for the progress of the state.
Oborevwori assured the people of the state that, with the signing of the 2021 Appropriation Bill into law, the assembly would ensure accountability, probity, transparency and efficiency in its implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
