Delta Residents Comply With Gov’s Directives On COVID-19
The dreaded COVID-19 pandemic yesterday resulted in the shutdown of the twin cities of Warri and Effurun in Delta State as residents locked themselves in obedience to Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa’s stay at home order.
Major streets in the two cities were empty as markets, shops, shopping malls, business centres, cinemas, religious centres, drinking spots, and restaurants
shut their doors against customers.
Our correspondent who took to the streets to monitor the level of compliance reports that residents observed that 98% of residents complied with the shutdown order by the governor.
Areas visited included the busy Robson G Shopping plaza in Okumagba Avenue, Okere Market, Igbudu Market, Igbo Market, Ogbe-Ijoh Market, Effurun Market and other places.
Security personnel’s mounted road blocks at major junctions to ensure compliance.
Some residents who spoke with newsmen commended the efforts of Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa for taking proactive steps towards curtailing the Coronavirus pandemic.
They, however, called on the state government to meet their needs while they are at home.
They also called on the state government to intensify security so that hoodlums would not take advantage of the stay at home order to wreak havoc in the state.
Our correspondent also reports that Ozoro, Oghara, Agbarho, Ughelli, Jeremiah, Udu, Obiaruku, Abraka, Oviorie, and Okpara, including Asaba, the Delta State capital were totally shut down.
