Court Verdict: Soku Chiefs, LG Boss, Others Laud Wike … Want Immediate Implementation
The people of Soku Community in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State have commended the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for pursuing the boundary dispute between the state and its sister state, Bayelsa, to the logical conclusion.
The spokesman of the Community and environmentalist, Christian Otiasa lauded the Governor amidst jubilations by the people in Port Harcourt yesterday.
According to him, the judgment is another major landmark achievement that would keep the name of the Governor in the minds of Kalabari people for ever.
“This is the second area Governor Wike has made the people of Kalabari happy; we the people of Soku Community, particularly, are very happy and grateful to him for the courage to pursue the matter to this level.
“We believe that Governor Wike and the people of the State are equal to the task, the Kalabari people are also equal to the task. We will continue to pursue the case justly until justice finally prevails, if Bayelsa State decides to appeal the judgement”, Otiasa said
The environmentalist also commended the immediate past Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Ameachi, who he said is the initiator of the matter.
“We will not fail to thank the immediate past Governor Rt. Hon. Rotimi Ameachi, who initiated the matter. Though he only succeeded in the one of Andoni, the one of Kalabari was due to the circumstances against at the time. I’m happy that Governor Wike has pursued it to a logical conclusion”, he said.
Also hailing the judgment, the President of Kalabari youth Federation, Livingstone Numbere, said the State Government has fought a good fight that will add meaningful development to the state and the Kalabari region.
He called on Federal Government to immediately implement the judgment by the Federal High Court to fasting development in the area.
“It is a thing of joy that the error made by the national Boundary commission has been corrected by the Court.
“It will translate to more development in the state, and I’m also appealing to the State Government to also carry out commensurable development in the communities bearing oil and gas in the state”, Numbere appealed.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
