Group Deplores Election Day Killings In Rivers
Apolitical pressure group in Rivers State, Mass Movement for Good Governance (MMGG), has deplored the alleged killings in the state by armed security men during the just concluded Presidential/National Assembly elections.
The group during a fasting and prayer meeting for the forth coming governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state called on Christians to pray and fast for peace to reign during the election.
The group also called on politicians from Rivers State and the South South region to cultivate the spirit of patriotism by allowing the will of the people to prevail during the elections.
The convener of the meeting, Bishop Godswill E.D. Jumbo, said that the group and the entire Christian Community in the state were not happy with the role allegedly played by the military during the election in the state.
According to him, most of the innocent people killed especially in Abonnema were Christians, adding that the fasting/prayer meeting was to seek divine intervention during the Guber/State Assembly elections.
Also speaking, Bishop Godwin Ogbuji, said that the present situation in the country had underscored the need for God’s intervention.
Bishop Ogbuji said that it behoved on the Christian Community to pray for peaceful election this week Saturday.
Also speaking, Barrister Mercy Frank, urged the Federal Government to prosecute those who perpetrated election violence in the country.
She also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the right thing was done during the election.
Also speaking, Bishop Sam Church Emeribe, called on the youths to desist from being used as political thugs during the election.
