Obaseki Lauds NAMA Over Airport Upgrade
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has applauded the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) for equipping the Benin Airport with modern navigational equipment and facilities that would enable it operate even in the night.
Obaseki, who made the remarks during an aviation forum, organised by Air Traffic Communicators in Benin said this will positively affect the economy of the state, as well as ease passengers movement within the area.
He said that the state government was collaborating with the management of NAMA to ensure a hitch-free installation of Instrument Landing System (ILS) and other night landing facilities at the airport.
The governor urged air traffic officers and NAMA in general to support his administration in its efforts to make the Benin Airport more viable with the commencement of night operations.
He noted that Benin airport remained one of the first five airports in the country with rapid passenger growth.
Obaseki, however, explained that lack of infrastructure had hindered the airport from bringing the needed development to Edo State.
“I want to thank Capt. Akinkuotu for the work he is doing in Benin airport. That is one of the reasons why I personally decided to attend this event to express the gratitude of Edo people to him and to NAMA for all the support”, he said.
The Edo State helmsman urged members of air traffic association to imbibe the culture of safety, efficiency and keep to international best practices. He also urged them to avail themselves of the benefits of regular training so as to keep pace with latest developments in the aviation industry.
