AVSEC Tasks Stakeholders On Airport’s Abnormalities
An aviation executive and the Head of Department of Aviation Security (AVSEC) at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Dr. Hope Bassey, has charged stakeholders and those that do business at the airport to report any abnormalities to the appropriate quarters without delay.
She said that a taskforce has been put in place to checkmate and monitor abnormal activities that are inimical to laid down rules of operations at the airport.
Bassey who gave the charge during a stakeholders forum on Wednesday at the airport said that ACSEC has the duty to safeguard the international civil aviation against unlawful interference like unlawful search and demand, among others .
The aviation security chief also urged stakeholders to carry out their assigned duties in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations so as to ensure smooth operations at the airport.
“ Report any abnormal speech or irregularities you see at the airport or your environment. Everything should be done in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations in lCAO, FAAN, constitution, and other legal documents.
“Taskforce is already put in place, and there should be a team work in carrying out our duties here at the airport. Searching of bags particularly those arrived from the international terminal is wrong since they had been screened at the airport of departure”, she said.
The aviation expert, however, urged stakeholders to have an understanding of what their duties are at the airport ,so as to avoid friction with other groups in the cause of operation.
She also frowned at the attitude of some staff who compromise just because they want to make quick money at the detriment of the image of the Port Harcourt International Airport.
