EPA Assures Egi Clan Of Better Deal
The President-General of Egi Peoples Assembly (EPA), Apostle Magnus Elemele says his organisation is working hard to restore the development momentum of the clan which had been disrupted by recent crisis that engulfed the area.
Elemele, who stated this in his speech at the grand finale of a town hall meeting held in Obite, the headquarters of Egi Clan in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, said “there is always light at the end of the tunnel”.
The president-general, who rendered what looks like a “scorecard” since his election as the leader of the Egi socio-cultural organisation said that with the cooperation of multinational oil and gas firms operating in “our land, all the 16 communities that make up Egi Clan will benefit from a project to be sited in their vicinity.”
He stated that within the period under review, the organisation had provided relief materials for two consecutive years, secured the release of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with Total on the gas leak of 2012 at Egita Community, and entered into another five years of MoU with the French oil and gas giant.
According to him, “the rumour of embezzlement of fund is not true,” adding that, “Those who peddled that rumour are agents of destabilization, who did not like the present peace in Egi land.
“We have also distributed education materials to all schools in Egi, while brick factory would soon take off in Egita Community”, he added.
He further disclosed that the practice of selling scholarship and skills acquisition forms provided by Total to indigenes of the area to outsiders has been stopped.
The president called for the replacement of zonal and community chiefs who refused to recognise the Egi monarch, Prof. Anele Uzondu Nwokoma, “because they are dragging us backward”.
