NYG: RSG Promises Best Athletes Scholarship
Rivers State government has promised scholarship for the best athletes in the National Youth Games (NYG) scheduled to commence today in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Commissioner for Sports in the state, Hon. Boma Iyaye stated that the state government has provided all the support for the contingent to perform well in the competition.
Iyaye said this yesterday when addressing the contingents at the Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
“The state government has done its part by providing everything required for the tournament.
‘‘Go there and make the state proud of you (athletes),” Iyaye stated.
The number one sports man in the state explained that it is not all about rewarding the athletes but to encourage them to put in their best as they represent the state.
“The state government will provide scholarship to the best athletes, not everybody,” he said.
Hon. Iyaye further explained that, he felt happy for the contingents who at their early age are representing the state.
Also speaking, the Director of Sports, Rivers State, Evangelist Ezekiel Ordu stated that Team Rivers would be participating in 31 games except football that they were eliminated.
According to him, 203 athletes will represent Team Rivers in the National Youth Games slated to commence today in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Ordu explained that all the athletes are ready for the competition, adding that sports council will not fail the state.
