The National President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Honour Sirawoo has charged members of the National Association of Ogoni Media Workers’ Election Steering Committee to ensure neutrality in the conduct of the forthcoming national election of the association.
Sirawoo gave the charge when members of the election steering committee paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Port Harcourt, last Saturday.
He identified some major problems bedevilling the people of Ogoni as lack of love and disunity, adding that while Ogonis’ push for inclusion in all spheres of national affairs was paramount, it was also vital for the people to close ranks and work together to achieve desired goals.
Sirawoo charged the election committee to ensure their conduct in the forth-coming election engenders greater love and unity among members of the association as well as the entire Ogoni ethnic nationality.
He promised to give every necessary support to ensure the association conducts hitch-free, non-violent and credible election to fill the 10 vacant positions.
Earlier, Chairman of NAOMEW’s Election Steering Committee, Comrade Christian Saro Ganale had described Sirawoo as an inspiration to many Ogonis and solicited his support as the committee prepares for the national election.
He thanked Sirawoo for giving the committee members the opportunity to discuss some of the challenges facing the Ogoni people with a view to proffering workable solutions.
