Lawmaker Charges Constituents On Agriculture
Lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor Constituency 1 in the Rivers House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Amaewhule has advised his constituents to embrace agriculture to tackle unemployment.
Amaewhule gave the advice last Thursday in Port Harcourt during an agriculture training programme organised in collaboration with the Rivers Agriculture Development Programme (R-ADP) for members of his constituency.
He urged participants to take advantage of the training to equip themselves with necessary farming skills that would improve food production.
Amaewhule, who is also the Majority Leader of the House, said mechanised farming would reduce the quest for white-collar jobs and encourage self-reliance.
“Everybody cannot be moving along the street looking for white-collar jobs, people can be self-employed.
“We believe agriculture is an area that our people can tap into.
“That is why we partnered with the Rivers School-to-Land / ADP so that they can help build capacity that would boost agricultural yields” he said.
The lawmaker gave out some farm implements and grants to assist farmers in the wet season farming.
