Woman Throws New Born Baby In Septic Tank
Residents of Edidi street in the densely populated Amukoko area of Ajegunle, Lagos were thrown off balance, following the discovery of the bloated body of a baby inside an opened septic tank.
The baby as gathered, was allegedly thrown inside by her mother last Saturday who thereafter, disappeared.
However, the Police said yesterday that the 28-year-old fleeing mother had been arrested. She was identified as Arabe Basi. Picture of the bloated body of the baby went viral on social media yesterday.
A resident who simply gave her name as Iya Modinat, said that the bloated body was discovered by a tenant who woke up to fetch water from the well at about 6am, Sunday.
According to her, she thought it was a heap of dirt that was carelessly thrown inside the septic tank. Out of curiosity, she moved closer to ascertain the type of dirt, so as to enable her know which of the tenants threw it there , only to discover it was baby. Her scream alerted other tenants who rushed out to discovered that a new born was wrapped inside a white cloth.
As they were screaming and cursing whoever did it, one of the tenants said she saw when Arabe came out at an ungodly hour and dropped something inside the opened septic tank. By the time they went to her one room apartment, she was not there”.
