DANA Air Named COWAP Official Airline
Dana Air has been named the official airline of the maiden edition of the Coalition of Wives of Presidents and Vice Presidents in Africa for Peace (COWAP) summit for peace and development.
The summit, which is scheduled to hold from 21st to 22nd of April at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, has the theme: ‘African Women Summit for Peace and Development in Africa’.
Manager, Media and Communication of the airline, Kingsley Ezenwa, who disclosed this to The Tide in a statement Tuesday, said the coalition is a project put together by the Engage, Empower, Educate Initiative an NGO which aims to harness the enormous capacity and goodwill of both sitting and past wives of Presidents and Vice Presidents in Africa towards four thematic points.
According to him, the points align with the Sustainable Development Goals; peace in Africa, girl-child education, ending hunger and poverty in Nigeria.
Speaking further on the choice of Dana Air as the official airline of the summit, Ezenwa said they are proud to have been selected as the official airline of such a huge summit coming up this month in Abuja.
“This is a testament to the fact that Africa appreciates and understands our efforts towards strategically connecting Nigerian cities to Africa, and providing safe, reliable and affordable air transport.
“We welcome this rare opportunity to showcase our award-winning service to all the delegates at large”, he stated.
Also speaking on the initiative, the project head, Meshack Kalada Belema said, “We are working in tandem with seven pillars of African Union’s Agenda 2063. We believe that Africa will be developed by Africans and this coalition will serve as critical player in the development.
“We are working with airlines that are committed to the African dream with their developmental activities and have distinguished themselves over the years like Dana Air and Ethiopian Airline and will work towards the success of the summit which is expected to draw over 3000 participants from African countries under the umbrella of African union”, he said.
As official airline, Dana shall provide all delegates to the summit with very convenient fares and also fly and provide logistic supports to the organising committee, the statement posited.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
