NAGAFF Tasks Members On Port Fees
The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), has advised freight forwarders to pay Port Operating Fees (POF) as directed by the Federal Government.
The National Publicity Secretary of NAGAFF, Mr Stanley Ezenga, gave the advice in a statement in Lagos, recently.
According to Ezenga, the attention of all NAGAFF members and freight forwarders is drawn to the commencement of collection of port operating fees by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
He said that all freight forwarders and licensed customs agents should approach NAGAFF headquarters for guidance, assistance in documentation and assessment of fees payable during their transactions.
“You are expected to present your original import Bill of Lading or Certificate copy for proper assessment.
“The declaration in this regard shall be based on your Registered Freight Forwarders’ (RFF) number given by the CRFFN as a registered freight forwarder.
“All payments should be made to the TSA account of the Federal Government.
“All Freight forwarders are hereby advised not to allow themselves to be dragged by anybody or organisation against the payment of POF as instructed by the Federal Government.
“While appreciating the rights of Nigerians to protest, the need to be law-abiding cannot be over- emphasised.
“Any person or group is at liberty to approach the court for a restraining order to stop collection of POF by the government if one is in disagreement”, Ezenga said.
He said, “It is also important to note that every freight forwarder or licensed customs agent is mandated to ensure that he or she or corporate body is duly registered with NAGAFF and the CRFFN”.
Ezenga said that the CRFFN had positioned its system officers at NAGAFF headquarters and other zonal offices nationwide.
He explained that the officers would guide freight agents on the processes and procedures of POF collection and the forthcoming election into the Board of the CRFFN.
According to him, it is the primary responsibility of the CRFFN to regulate and control the practice of freight forwarding in Nigeria as a profession.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
