RSU Ready To Partner Medical Women
The Rivers State University (RSU) has stated its readiness to partner with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) in checking all forms of attitudinal and health challenge confronting students.
Making this known recently when the leadership of NWAN, Rivers State branch, paid him an advocacy visit , Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Blessing Didia, expressed delight over the initiative of the body.
“I commend you (MWAN) for your initiative in identifying and dealing with issues of abuse, neglect, and social vices facing students in schools”, he said.
The Vice Chancellor used the opportunity to reiterate what he called his administration’s zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractices, sexual harassment and other vices.
According to him, RSU under his watch “has enjoyed peace and uninterrupted academic calendar”.
Earlier, President of the MWAN, Rivers State Branch, Dr Rosemary Ogu said the body was on advocacy visit to the university in appreciation of the institution’s establishment of a youth friendly centre to tackle cases of social abuse, violence, reproductive and mental health challenges among students.
She said the project is an initiative of the United Nations geared towards curbing violence and adding value to the lives of students beyond their academic pursuits.
The MWAN boss also used the opportunity to appreciate the achievements of the Vice Chancellor within a relatively short period of his appointment, saying that the emergence of Prof. Didia as Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University is an “act of God”.
