Ayade Extols Army’s Resilience Against Boko Haram

of Cross River State has commended the Nigerian Army for demonstrating gallantry and reclaiming all areas controlled by Boko Haram insurgents in North-East.
Ayade made the commendation at the launching of 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem at the Cultural Centre Complex in Calabar yesterday.
Represented by Prof. Ivara Esu, his Deputy, Ayade said that the reclaiming of the territories by the Nigerian Army had restored confidence in the lives of residents in the areas and Nigerians in general.
He said that his administration would continue to pay glowing tributes to the nation’s past heroes’ as well as serving officers and men of the Armed Forces.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces recently demonstrated its gallantry and capacity by reclaiming all areas previously controlled by Boko Haram insurgents in the North Eastern part of the country.
“Many of these fallen soldiers lost their lives in the process of peace keeping while some were mortally injured and became physically incapacitated.
“Some families of these fallen heroes’ are now going through difficult times without their bread winners.
“Such a situation calls for sober reflection and concern on the part of every one of us as they laid down their lives so that you and I may have peace,’’ he said.
He assured the Nigerian Legion in the state of his administration’s commitment in ensuring that the monthly subvention due to the legion was given to them.
Mr Oliver Orok, the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Sustainable Development, said that the event formed a very significant part of our nation’s history as Nigeria gathers to remember the heroic exploit of military personnel who fought gallantly to ensure national and global peace.
Orok urged all Nigerians to participate in the remembrance Week as a way of expressing concern and appreciation to our beloved fallen heroes and their families.
He also urged all Nigerians to purchase the Remembrance Emblem as a sign of contribution toward the welfare of the families of the fallen heroes.
Retired Col. Timothy Ushie, Chairman of Nigerian Legion in the state, thanked the state government for its contribution to the legion in the state.
“This year’s Remembrance Week will come to climax on the 15th of January, 2017 with the laying of Remembrance Wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldiers.
“As we celebrate our fallen heroes, we should pause to reflect on the well being of the wives, children and other dependants they left behind,’’ he said.
The Tide reports that security chiefs in the state, which include the Navy, Army, Police, Air Force and others, attended the occasion.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style.
