Monarch Lauds Wike’s Amnesty Programme
A traditional ruler in Ibaa
Community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Sampson Ovua, has commended the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the amnesty granted to reprentant cultists and kidnappers in the state.
Chief Ovua who made the commendation while speaking to journalists at his palace in Ibaa Community on Monday, said the government’s gesture would restore peace and unity across the state especially in Ibaa Community that had been polarised by cult crisis.
The traditional ruler expressed deep concern over the level of destruction inflicted on the community as a result of the various cult clashes in the area, adding that he was optimistic that the programme would achieve the intention for which it was created by the state government.
He lauded the repentant cultists and kidnappers who had chosen the path of peace by accepting the state government’s amnesty offer and charged them to remain in the new way of life they have now chosen even as he urged those who are still skeptical about the programme and are still reluctant to come out to embrace the amnesty and turn over a new leaf.
According to him, he had always dreamt of a better Ibaa community, where the people would make selfless sacrifices that would promote peace and unity in the area.
“In my early 20’s, I had made sure government projects were attracted to the community. I brought the Ibaa bridge and electricity to the community. Recently, I realized that some enemies of progress in the community do not like good things” he stated.
“I tried to fight against criminalities and crimes such as killing, cultism and kidnapping in the community, but the bad boys and their sponsors would not allow peace to reign in the area. Thank God that the present administration in the state has come to help through the amnesty prograamme. I pray that they will embrace it and become responsible citizens and be useful to the community”, he stated.
