Cleric Tasks FG On Airports’ Dev
Rather than considering
the option of concessioning or privatisation of airports in the country, the Arch. Bishop in-charge of the Niger Delta Province of the Anglican Communion, Ignatus Kattey has urged the Federal Government to pay more attention to the development of Nigerian airports.
He said that Nigeria airports, particularly the Port Harcourt International Airport at Omagwa needs to be upgraded in the area of infrastructural provision, as is obtainable in other countries of the world.
Kattey, who disclosed this in a chat with journalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa on his way to Abuja, Tuesday, explained that much has not been done yet by the Federal Government in the development of airports in Nigeria.
According to him, the present level of infrastructural development at the Port Harcourt International Airport does not depict the acceptable international standard, and urged the govt to take more proactive steps to provide infrastructure.
He said that a lot of families in Nigeria earn their living through the airport, and that many jobs might be lost if the Federal Government gives out the airport to private individuals through concessioning, who will only be mindful of the gains they will make.
On the economic situation confronting the nation at 56 years of Independence, the Anglican cleric urged Nigerians to put their trust only in God, rather than looking unto man who on his own does not have the ability to change things.
Kattey regretted that the situation at hand had impoverished many people across the country, who could barely meet the demands of their families.
He also called on well-meaning Nigerians whom God has endowed with wisdom and talents not to lose faith, but to put their ideas and talents to work and seek for how to put things right for the benefits of all.
