Contractor Ordered To Commence Work On David-West Road
The Rivers State Com
missioner for Works, Hon Bathuel Iheanyi- chukwu Harrison has given CGC construction company handling Tam David-West road project five days to resume work or have the contract terminated.
He gave the directive while inspecting Tam David-West Boulevard and Eleme-Onne, East West road recently.
He warned that Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration would not condone any form of negligence from contractors handling road projects in the state after being mobilised to site.
The commissioner who regretted the slow pace of work by the company even after being mobilised since May, this year, said the government was looking at completing one lane of the road within a given period.
According to him, the importance of this road in this state cannot be undermined because it connects many communities to the International Airport without undertaking rigorous journeys”.
He further charged the Chief Resident Engineer of the ministry to monitor the company to ensure that the project was delivered as scheduled.
While inspecting the reconstruction work on Eleme-Onne road, the commissioner pleaded with the commuters to exercise patience and manage the alternative route, adding that the state government in partnership with some companies operating within the area was doing its best to ensure that the condition of the road would improve in few months from now, further charged the contractor handling the road to speed up their pace of work.
The commissioner also called on Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) and Oil and Gas Company to comply with their own part of the commitment as quickly as possible for completion of the road to ease human and vehicular movement within that axis.
In his response, the site Manager of Reynold Construction Company (RCC), Engr. Akinfenwa Oyebode expressed their commitment in delivering the job as soon as possible, but regretted that they were being affected by the rainy season.
