AWELGA Plans One Million-Man Peace Walk
The Ahoada-West Local
Government Area of Rivers State says plans are underway to hold a one-million man walk to deepen peace in the area.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman in the area, Hon. Jerry Akuru, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
The Chairman explained that the peace walk would be organised soon in conjunction with some relevant organisations to sensitise people of the area, especially the youth on the need to embrace peace for sustainable development of the area.
“Security has become a global issue because all countries of the world have security challenges, but unfortunately the situation in our area is being over-exaggerated by some persons. It should be a collective thing which requires everybody to be involved”, he said.
The CTC boss pleaded with youths in the area to take advantage of the Governor Nyesom Wike Amnesty Initiative and surrender their arms, stressing that it was only when the youths embraced peace that needed investments would be attracted.
He warned staff of the council to be diligent with their duties and shun lateness to work and absenteeism, pointing out that his administration would not tolerate indolence.
The council boss, it would be recalled swore-in members of the CTC in the area recently and charged them to be active in rendering service and to work closely with him to meet needed targets.
Those sworn in were Barr Echezu Ogbonna, Raphael Godwin, Mrs Emedhem, Chief Ovieniso Dende, James Ekpee and Mrs Chinaenyim German.
The CTC boss also announced the dissolution of all committees.
