IYC Condemns Attack On Radio Station
The Ijaw Youth Counciled (IYC) has condemned Friday’s attack of Silverbird’s Rhythm FM in Bayelsa State by some armed youths.
The President of IYC, Mr Udengs Eradiri, who made the condemnation while speaking to newsmen on Saturday in Yenagoa, decried the attack and urged those involved to desist from the heinous act.
Our correspondent recalls that armed youths had invaded Silverbird on Friday, throwing the radio station into pandemonium.
The youth, who shut sporadically into the air, forced employees to scamper for safety.
The incident disrupted activities at the radio station leaving workers and guests who were in the station for a live programme with bruises.
Eradiri described the incident as “unlawful, a disruption of peace and a clear violation of a court order.
“Our people should desist from destroying the image of the Ijaw nation.
“We are going to make sure that the police arrest the perpetrators and definitely, they will face the wrath of the law.
“I condemn the misconduct of some disgruntled youths who are into violence and disruption of peace in Ijaw nation.
“I am the President of IYC and what I owe my people is the responsibility to ensure peace,’’ the president noted.
According to him, IYC is for peace, we will not tolerate members who engage in violence or cause trouble through the use of media.
“Finally, I urge the media to avoid using their station to disseminate negative information to the society.
“IYC is still one house and if I have been removed from office, I believe the whole world will know about it.
“I am still the genuine IYC president; removing me as president of the council will have to follow the procedure spelt out in our constitution.
“This has not happened, so I am still the president,’’ he stated.
