Poor State Of PH/Oyigbo Road Worries Motorists, Others
Motorists and shop
owners have appealed to the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to come to their aid by rehabilitating Port Harcourt- Oyigbo road.
They stated this while speaking in an interview with The Tide in Oyigbo, at the weekend.
A cab driver, Iheanyichukwu Onuorah, explained that the road had been in a state of disrepair for close to a decade, thus making life unbearable for motorists and other road users.
He said apart from the usual gridlock that had become a daily occurrence, many lives had been lost on the road as a result of accident.
Another motorist, Kingsley Kalu, said they spent so much money maintaining their vehicles because of the poor state of the road.
“The road has recorded so much accident and damaged several vehicles. We have complained to the authorities, yet nothing has changed.
“We are appealing to Governor Wike to come to our aid. He should direct the Rivers State Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency to work on this road so that we can once again smile like other road users in the state”, he said.
A shop owner, Blessing Nwadike, also expressed worry over the state of the road, saying that shop owners had been witnessing low patronage because the road was becoming impassible.
She said some traders had abandoned their shops while others had relocated to conducive and accessible areas.
“This rainy season you can see how rain has flooded everywhere, such that you can hardly see where the ditch is, and now motorists plying the route end up damaging their vehicles.
“During dry season it was fair. Now rain has taken over the road. Only few motorists who are used to the bad roads now ply the route and few shop owners still maintain their shops”, she added.
She said she voted for the governor and appealed to him to come to their rescue.
