RSG Set To Partner FG On PH Airport
The Rivers State Government says it will approach the Federal Government to facilitate the completion of the remodelling project at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
The state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, stated this while addressing the third session of the third synod of the Diocese of Ikwerre, at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Omerelu in Ikwerre Local Government Area, with the theme, ”Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our Faith.”
Wike, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, stated that although the airport project belongs to the Federal Government, the state government would adopt advocacy means to ensure the smooth completion of the airport project, to ease hardship encountered by air travellers and airport users.
He said the Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency (RSRMA) would be mobilized to Omerelu community to embark on internal road rehabilitation and construction to address poor road network in the area.
On security, the governor reiterated his earlier promise to kick-start the building of a Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARs) Station between Elele and Omerelu community to check the security challenges posed by activities of criminals in the area, particularly at border towns.
The state chief executive, congratulated the church for successfully hosting the synod while soliciting for prayerful support and encouragement of the clergy as well as the parishioners to the state government to enable it deliver on its mandate
Earlier in his address, Bishop of Ikwerre Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd Blessing Enyindah, had lauded Governor Wike for appointing members of the church into his cabinet and for honouring the synod with his presence, noting that it was the first time in the history of the diocese that a governor was visiting them.
He called on the governor to expedite action in curbing the rising cases of insecurity in the area, as well as the construction of internal roads in Omeralu community, and also requested for grants to assist in rehabilitating of mission schools in the community.
In his sermon, the guest preacher, Rev. Michael Fape, said the theme of the synod was apt, as Christians should have hope in running the race of the kingdom of God, and charged them to be steadfast.
