Traditional Ruler Tasks Egi Elites On Peace
Traditional ruler of Etiti-
Egi His Royal Majesty, Eze London Nwobiyebe, has urged elites of Egi origin to come and contribute to the ongoing peace process in the area.
Eze Nwobiyebe who made the appeal while exchanging views with executive members of a socio-cultural group, the EgiJoint Action Congress (EJAC) pointed out that it was wrong for people to aspire to be leaders when they were not living at home.
“A leader must identify with his people either in time of peace or in crises, you cannot be an absentee leader”
“We have started the process of restoring peace in Egi land, we have moved round the whole towns and villages, begging and appealing to our children who are aggrieved to come out so that we can discuss”.
According to him, the expectations, now is that the political class and elites from the area would join hands in making the process a success, instead of engaging in other issues that will prolong the peace process.
The traditional ruler, however, thanked the organisation for their visit, expressing the hope that, they would be part of a greater convention of all citizens of Egi clan so as to strengthen the peace process.
Speaking, the leader of the Group, Comrade Che Ibegwura said the visit of his organisation was to seek the blessing of traditional rulers in its plan to carry out enlightenment programs that would ensure the returning of the area to its past glory.
“ For meaningful and genuine development to take place in an area, traditional rulers must be part of it, as custodians of the people’s culture”, he said.
He said “as a major oil producing community, Egi, is suffering in silence”, stressing that “there is need to globalize it’s problems as to seek national and international solutions”.
He therefore called on the youths to embrace peace, avoid violence and shun any act that would ruin their future.
